Aimpoint Electronic Mark Iii Scope 3x

I have an old Aimpoint Mark III, bought it maybe in 1988 or so. It looks like it takes 1/3N, which are now CR123s. Problem is, the 123s are such a tight fit, I can't get them to seat in the battery tube. Also, the way the little decal says to seat them, it doesn't seem like they should fit that way. Hell, in the 20 years since I used it, it's been stored without batteries, and although the outside got beat up in my toolbox, it seems like a waste to toss it. Anyone have one that can steer me the right way for either the correct batteries, or the like?

My M2 took 1/3N's and they are very small, almost like a thick watch battery. The CR123's however are very large in comparison and usually go in flashlights and Eotechs. To remove you have to shake the sight a little but they do drop out. Mine has worked fine this way for years. Originally Posted By PFC: The 1/3N is not the same as a CR123. A single 123, with the plastic outer jacket removed, fits in the same space, provides the same 3V, are reasonablly inexpensive, and easily found. As mentioned before, I have been running my MKIII like this for years.

ETA: Per AIMPOINT, the 123 is the appropriate battery for this sight. Originally Posted By PFC: The 1/3N is not the same as a CR123. Botach currently show Sanyo CR-1/3N as Aimpoint replacements in 10/packs $25. Mark III orginally took two EPX style 1.5 Volt batteries, now discontinued.

After all that, finally got the chance to try a 123 that way, and it looks like years of storage killed the sight, anyway. Trash day is Tuesday, it'll be getting buried with honors.
